Denis Gifford was a writer, broadcaster, journalist, comic artist and historian of film, comics, television and radio.
Gifford wrote, and drew, and collected British comics. He contributed to radio and television programs; and directed several short films. He wrote more than fifty books on the creators, performers, characters and history of popular media, some of which capture the history of film and comics in Britain, accounts from people who worked in those media, and lost films, titles, and uncredited creators. He created detailed filmographies of every fiction, non-fiction and animated film ever released in Britain, and of early animated films in the U.S., and the first catalogue that listed every comic published in the UK.
